ABOUT

Fisheries is a study of biological science which deals with the fish (freshwater and marine water) and other aquatic living organisms such as shellfish, cuttlefish and seaweeds which have economic value. Bangladesh is a country of rivers, rivulets and tributaries and these water bodies abound in fishery resources. Around 60% of animal protein is supplied by the commercially important fisheries organisms which are also considered as the cheapest in cost and richest source of animal protein as well as one of the major commercial economic sectors in our country. Study of fisheries can successfully convert aquatic resources and human resources into a highly productive output. Therefore, our curriculum is covering up most effectively relevant disciplines in fisheries which includes aquatic resources, ichthyology, fisheries zoology, freshwater ecology, microbiology, bio-chemistry, fish biology, genetics and breeding, population dynamics, statistics, aquaculture, processing, parasitology, post-harvest technology, conservation management and aquatic biodiversity. Our graduates have vast amount of job opportunities including academic and research, extension work, development activities in numerous government and non-government organizations, donor/development agencies, banks and private sectors.
